In Arise Crossover, your strength is directly tied to the quality of your Shadows and Weapons. While collecting Shadows by defeating enemies is straightforward, upgrading them to their maximum potential requires specific knowledge. This comprehensive guide will walk you through the process of upgrading your Shadows to SS rank and beyond.
Shadow Ranking System
Before diving into the upgrade process, it's important to understand the Shadow ranking system in Arise Crossover:

How to Upgrade Shadows to SS Rank
To upgrade a Shadow to SS rank in Arise Crossover, you'll need to follow these steps:
- Collect all six lower-rank versions of the same Shadow (E, D, C, B, A, and S ranks)
- Visit the Shadow Upgrader NPC located near the spawn area in Leveling City
- Select each version in the upgrade interface
- Click the Upgrade button to transform them into a single SS-rank Shadow
Pro Tip: Focus on collecting the C, B, A, and S versions first, as E and D ranks are relatively easy to obtain during regular gameplay. There's no need to level up your Shadows before upgrading them, as their level will reset after the upgrade.
Alternative Methods to Obtain SS Rank Shadows
If you don't want to go through the upgrade process, there is another way to obtain SS-rank Shadows:
- SS-rank Dungeons: These rare dungeons (identified by their large red portals) appear very rarely, on average once or twice per day
- Group Play: These dungeons are extremely challenging, so bringing a team is highly recommended. Check out our Community page to find teammates.
Special G-Tier Shadows
While most Shadows can only be upgraded to SS rank, there are two special exceptions that can reach the legendary G tier:
- Ziru: G-rank version can be obtained from the King boss during the Dedu Island raid or as a reward while AFK
- Monarch: G-rank version drops only from the Monarch boss in very rare double Dungeons
Unfortunately, other Shadows cannot be upgraded beyond SS rank at this time.
Remember that an SS-rank Shadow will have a much higher maximum level cap and, thus, much higher damage. So, it is always worth upgrading Shadows in Arise Crossover. However, don't forget to level them up properly and let them catch up to the rest of your party after upgrading.
